It's been a long time coming!
In April of this year I was very lucky to be able to celebrate my 10th year in business which is quite a long time in the caking world and I am very proud of this achievement :) ...
However the cake world has changed massively over the past 10 years and with access to other cake makers websites on a daily basis I knew that my website was looking ... well ... just a bit sh!t
I was also getting similar feedback from trusted cake colleagues (although they were much kinder in their choice of words), and I was beginning to realise that if I wanted my little business to survive for the next 10 years then I was going to have to pull my finger out and do something about it!
So I asked around, took some advice and decided that the only way forward was to have a whole re-brand / re-launch which seemed like a massive undertaking! However it needed to happen and pretty D quickly too! Anyone who knows me well will know that I am a little bit of a procrastinator, so to give me a date to work towards I chose the 10th April, which is the adopted starting date for my business, as although I knew it was April I couldn't actually remember the 'official' date :/ ,
To kick things off I created a new logo to replace the one I had, chose some branding colours which I felt reflected the direction in which I wanted to take my business, and began the long laborious task of sifting through 10 years worth of cake photos! What a task that was!
I had originally thought that I wouldn't put many (if any) novelty cakes on my new website as in my head they didn't 'fit' with the direction I wanted to go with the business, which was to concentrate more on 'luxury' wedding cakes and pretty baby shower and christening cakes.
However trying to let go of some of them proved just a little too difficult ... and you know what ... a novelty cake may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a luxury wedding cake maker BUT in my opinion they show flexibility, imagination, creativity, an array of transferable skills, and an ability to pretty much turn any subject or theme into an edible work of art :) ... now if that isn't luxury then I will eat my hat (made of cake of course).
So, maybe I didn't quite make my deadline for the website launch as my 'go live' date was somewhat governed by a change over in domain provider and ended up being May 1st. However, the website is now up and running, and although I know it needs a few tweaks here and there I am actually really happy with it. It has a much cleaner, clearer and less cluttered look to it and hopefully showcases my work in a more professional manner than my previous website. I sincerely hope you enjoy looking through the site and my cakes.
